Time Out Service
This is a weekday service for elderly and disabled people, enabling them to get out of the house, do their shopping, meet friends, socialise and learn useful information about other local services.
The Time Out Service is an opportunity for elderly and disabled people to get out for a couple of hours during the day. You can meet people in a relaxed atmosphere and, if you wish, take a turn around the town, shop, pay bills, and participate in an activity programme. If you need help to get about we have volunteer helpers who will provide that assistance and we have wheelchairs for people who need to borrow one.
Who runs the service?
The service is organised by the Direct Services Team at the Volunteer Centre. Louise Wraight is the Direct Services Manager. Tina Taylor and Maggs Winterbottom run the scheme on a day to day basis. Tina and Maggs organise the activities and supervise the volunteer helpers.
Can the service provide lunch?
Food is arranged according to your wishes, some people send out for food (the volunteer helpers will fetch it for you) - both hot and cold, some people bring in sandwiches.
How do you get there?
The service is based at Bradbury Community House on Market Street in Glossop. Transport can be provided by Glossop Community Transport (01457 861635), who cover different areas of Glossop on different days, or if you prefer, you can make your own way in.
How much is the service?
The service is free but you do pay a small fee if you are using the community bus. You do have to pay for your own lunch and tea & coffee - we keep the charges as low as possible.
How can I join?
You can be referred to the service by a number of people including Doctors, District Nurses, Home Helps or you can refer yourself. All you have to do is contact Maggs or Tina at Volunteer Centre Glossop, there is a form to fill in, but we can help with the paperwork.
Our Aims
We seek to provide some quality time for people who wish to get out, meet other people, shop, go out for a breath of fresh air, chat, play cards, dominoes and other games, or learn about other services of interest in the area.
If you'd like more details, contact Tina Taylor or Maggs Winterbottom on 01457 890906.
